Earth Day and Sustainable Living

April 22, 2021

Sustainability is one of our core values at Enact Systems Inc. This day, our team asks to reflect on the dire issues we are facing as a planet: the Climate Crisis.

To date, billions of tons of CO2 are released into the atmosphere every year as a result of coal, oil, and gas production. Science clearly states that the last four years were the four hottest on record. Human activity is producing greenhouse gas emissions at a record high, with no signs of decelerating. Three-quarters of global greenhouse gas emissions result from the burning of fossil fuels for energy. Which are responsible for large amounts of local air pollution. A health problem that leads to at least 5 million premature deaths each year. According to a World report, we are at least one degree Celsius above preindustrial levels and close to what scientists warn would be “an unacceptable risk”. Without crucial focus on sustainable energy, global reports say we are on a steady increasing trajectory of the Climate Crisis.

The consequences are dire and current and future generations will be affected in multiple ways. Glaciers and ice sheets in polar and mountain regions are already melting quicker than expected. Almost two-thirds of the world’s cities with populations of over five million are located in areas at risk of sea level rise. If no action is taken, entire districts of New York, Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, and many other cities could find themselves underwater within our lifetimes, displacing millions of people.

Moreover, climate change limits the availability and quality of water for drinking and agriculture leaving the most vulnerable populations are at risk. This is already taking place and according to the Associated Press, the new term for these victims is called “Climate Refugees”.

Although the term “climate-crisis” or “global warming” is well-known to the public, we tend to feel helpless with the problem. Even so here are ways to still contribute to a more sustainable and eco-conscious lifestyle. Below are three solid takeaways that we can do as individuals that will be both helpful for the environment and support combating the climate crisis.

#1 To reduce CO2 emissions

And local air pollution, the world needs to rapidly shift towards low-carbon sources of energy. For example nuclear and renewable technologies. Sign up for a consultation for more information about going solar.

#2 Do research and buy eco-friendly products

Know where the company is getting supplies from and make sure they are a sustainably sourced.

#3 Reduce plastic use and overall waste

By forming by being self-aware, forming better habits, and setting an example for others. Buy reusable water bottles and reuse your own bags at the store. Plastic further causes pollution and is a major threat to the entire eco-system.
